International conference on Europe’s security, on 8th of May, Sibiu/ Defence and Security Monitor, partner of the event

The International Conference “Europe’s Future” starts one day before the EU Summit from Sibiu, 8th of May, aiming at promoting a debate on Union’s future scenarios. The international conference “Europe’s future. The perspectives of contemporary developments” will be held between 8th and 10th of May, at the “Lucian Blaga” University from Sibiu. The event is under the High Patronage of the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, and under the auspices of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council.

According to the schedule published on event’s official website, the Conference will be opened on 8th of May, at 5pm, by the chief of state, Klaus Iohannis. The topic the chief of state will debate, as presented in agenda’s project, will be the Romania’s interest, strategy and options for shaping the future of Europe.

Another topic is dedicated to education as research tool within the society and its role in Europe. It will be approached also Europe’s topic, to have two or multi-speed, as well as the European cohesion.

There will be also talks about projects to be developed for EU’s future. Migration, regaining trust in the European project, the future EU financial framework, countering disinformation before the Euro-parliamentary elections and Brexit are also subjects to be debated.

Among the participants are also the Foreign Minister, Teodor Melescanu, the former European Commissary, Dacian Ciolos, Vasile Puscas, Cristian Diaconescu, Natalie Tocci, Guntram Wolff or Arvydas Pocius.

The conference is organized by the Conflict Prevention and Early Warning Center, Bucharest, a leading Romanian think tank, specialized in research and training in international relations, conflict analysis and decision making in crisis, and the “Lucian Blaga” University, Sibiu.

Defence and Security Monitor is one of the partners of the conference.

In the same period, in Sibiu, it will take place the Summit of the EU chiefs of state and government, where the European leaders will discuss about the new EU 2019-2024 agenda. The event will be chaired by president Klaus Iohannis, and the president of the European Council, Donald Tusk, will chair the reunion. There will be 27 member states leaders participating at the event, but also the president of the European Commission (EC), Jean-Claude Juncker and the president of the European Parliament (EP), Antonio Tajani.
